Tramore Bible Church is a lively Evangelical Church in the centre of the seaside town of Tramore. Around 65 local people meet every Sunday morning to worship the Lord and enjoy fellowship with each other and God.
We are a member of the Association of Irish Evangelical Churches (see www.aontas.ie) . That sounds very grand but maybe you haven’t heard of an “evangelical” church before. So what does “evangelical” mean and why are we called a “Bible Church”?
What is an evangelical church?
First of all, evangelical churches have been around in Ireland for years, even if they haven’t actually been called that.The word “evangelical” comes from a Greek term meaning, “good news”. So it is a church that has good news to share.
What is the “good news” that the Bible tells us about?
The Bible, basically, tells the story of God’s great rescue plan. God created the world as a good place where people could live in perfect harmony with Him, but we messed up.We chose to go our own way and not follow the instructions of the One who made us.God could have left us to go our own way and the world would be in an even worse state than it is today – but He didn’t and this is where the rescue plan comes in.
Our rebellion against God means that we deserve to be punished, but He loved us so much that He sent His unique Son, Jesus – the only perfect man who has ever lived – to take our place.When Jesus died on the cross, He didn’t just set an example of sacrificial love.He took the punishment that we deserve and did everything that was necessary to make us right with God, but……..we need to accept it for ourselves personally.
If we say sorry for going our own way and ask Him to be Lord of our lives, then we can have complete assurance of eternal life. That doesn’t just mean life in heaven with God when we die (although we can be sure of that),but also the best life we can have now, before we die – life the way God meant it to be.That’s the “good news”.
Why “Bible Church”?
We realise that “evangelical” is not a term used by a lot of people, so we chose to call ourselves Tramore Bible Church. We’re a group of people who have accepted this good news for ourselves and have put our trust in Jesus Christ alone. We meet together to study the Bible and to worship God.In our dealings with each other and those we come into contact with, we try to live the way God wants us to.We said earlier that evangelical churches have good news to share.When you have good news, the first thing you want to do is share it with others and we are the same.Through various activities and meetings throughout the year,we seek to pass on this good news to others so that they might find a fulfilled life in Jesus too.
